Residential 5G Internet Connectivity
Jims Antennas Northern Rivers had a residential customer who was struggling to get 4G coverage for their voice calls and limited coverage for their 5G internet connection. Cassie engaged Powertec to provide a solution that would meet the customer’s connectivity dilemma.
Installation Challenges
The main challenge with the installation was getting the antennas to a height above the treeline so that the signal from the nearest tower could reach the house with minimal disruption from the surrounding trees.
The Issue
The main issue affecting the available signal was the location and the dense bushland surrounding the property that interrupted the signal.
The Solution
A Poynting Xpol MiMo Antenna was installed on a roof mast so that the antenna had a direct line of sight to the nearest tower. This was cabled down to the customer’s Nighthawk M5 modem, this 5G internet was then distributed by a Ruijie RAP2260 Wi-Fi 6 Ceiling Access Point. The client was also provided with a Ruijie EST350 wireless bridge to send the 5G internet to a separate building on the property which was further distributed by a Ruijie EW1800GX Pro Wi-Fi 6 mesh router.
The customer was also provided with an LPDA Telstra Go building pack to enhance 4G throughout the premise to make & receive calls.
All products used were recommended to Cassie by Powertec when engaged to do the site analysis remotely.
The Products
The XPOL-2-5G is Poynting’s third-generation “V3” of this very popular Cross Polarised (XPOL), cellular band, 2×2 MIMO antenna and includes the newer 3400 – 3800 MHz bands making it suitable for 2G, 3G, 4G & 5G.
Ruijie RAP2260 Wi-Fi 6 Ceiling Access Point
The RG-RAP2260(G) is a high-performance entry Wi-Fi 6 AP for large indoor areas Wi-Fi coverage scenarios. The device supports 802.3af/at PoE and 12V DC local power supply.
The Ruijie Reyee Series RG-EST350 is an 802.11ac wireless bridge operating at 5 GHz, supporting two spatial streams (2×2 MIMO technology) and providing up to 867 Mb/s throughput, which can fully meet the data link bandwidth requirements of various services.

The Outcome
The customer now has full 4G coverage throughout the main house, with 160-170 Mb/s 5G internet at both the main house and the second building on the property. This has now enabled the client to use their phone without worrying about call dropouts or missed calls, plus super-fast internet.
