An SMA series coaxial surge protector is a specific type of surge protector that is designed to work with SMA (SubMiniature version A) connectors in RF systems.
SMA connectors are used widely in RF systems due to their small size, high performance, and reliability. Despite their widespread usage, SMA surge protectors are less common and typically only found in simple RF systems, such as 4G repeater systems for homes and small offices, and also in more unusual RF systems such as GPS and WiFi.
Their less common usage is predominantly due to their small size meaning less durability than their N-Type and 4.3-10 counterparts. They can also be more difficult to handle in an industrial setting or in field conditions, particularly where the installer must wear PPE such as gloves.
