An SMA RF adapter is a compact, robust coaxial RF connector, designed for high-frequency applications typically up to 6 GHz but up to 18 GHz in precision variants. It is used to connect incompatible RF equipment by serving as an interface between different types of connectors.

To identify an SMA connector, look for a small, threaded interface. The male connector has an 8 mm hex nut with an inner pin, while the female connector features a receptacle with an outer sleeve for threading. While commonly gold plated, nickel and stainless steel variants do exist.

Installation involves carefully screwing the adapter onto the device’s RF connectors, avoiding over-tightening to prevent damage.
