Case Study: Bridged Group Solar Cel-Fi Project
The Bridged Group is a Victorian-based Powertec dealer that prides itself on delivering a single point of support for businesses with the aim of simplifying information communication technology since 2012.
The Background
The Shire of Dandaragan is a local government area located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, about 200 kilometres north of Perth. The local council manages various campsites in some very remote locations across their borough that are cut off with no serviceable mobile signal.
The Dandaragan council engaged the Bridged Group to facilitate a solution to improve the mobile coverage of these remote camping locations.
The Bridged Group consulted Powertec to provide a solution to provide cellular coverage across 2 locations on the campsite. As there was no power at the locations, we had to manufacture a custom solar-powered system.
The Problem
This project encountered it’s share of unique challenges that needed to be overcome.
Manufacturing – There are always challenges when developing a solution that is custom build and not an off the shelf solution. The Cel-Fi Solar System is a custom build and we only had 1 engineer who had quite a few jobs already in the pipeline.
Location – Remote location in WA meant there were many variables, so it took additional time to capture the required information needed to build the system, deliver and install the solution. The team had to travel to the site to conduct surveys of the area in order to provide the best solution.
Logistics – Given the recent heavy rains and the subsequent flooding events across the country there were various delays across the transportation networks that had to be factored in with workarounds put in place to ensure the project was not pushed back.
The Solution Solar Cel-Fi Relay System
The Solar Powered Cel-Fi Repeater broadcasting a Telstra signal via 2 panel antennas provided coverage around the camp site gazebo and shower areas. This solution eliminated the safety concerns about having no communication at the campsite.
The cost of this solution was relatively cheap at $16k and the customer was able to pay for this through their Telstra tech funds.
