Powertec Telecommunications to Expand Mobile Coverage at 35 Regional Surf Beaches
Posted by Powertec on 12 Feb, 2025
Powertec Telecommunications is proud to announce our role in enhancing mobile coverage at 35 regional surf beaches across Western Australia. Under the Cook Labor Government’s Surf Beaches Mobile Coverage Grants Program – Round Two, Powertec has been appointed to deliver vital repeater infrastructure to improve connectivity along the coastline from the Kimberley to Esperance.
With a $2 million commitment from the Cook Government, this initiative aims to enhance safety and accessibility for locals and visitors engaging in activities such as swimming, surfing, camping, fishing, and snorkeling. By expanding mobile coverage in these remote and frequently visited locations, Powertec is helping to ensure faster communication and emergency response capabilities where they are needed most.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development has identified key sites with poor or no mobile coverage in consultation with Surfing WA, regional development commissions, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, and local governments. Many of these sites already feature Beach Emergency Number (BEN) signs, and with improved mobile coverage, emergency services will be better equipped to respond quickly to incidents.
Powertec’s Project Manager, Brodie Tarrant, said “This second round follows the successful launch of the program in 2023, which funded mobile repeaters we are installing at 20 surf beaches. With both rounds combined, a total of 55 regional beaches will benefit from improved mobile connectivity. Installation work is well under way for Round 1 with Round 2 set to commence in the second half of this year.”
At Powertec Telecommunications, we are committed to bridging the connectivity gap in regional and remote areas. Through innovative solutions and strategic partnerships, we continue to support safer, better-connected communities across Australia.
