Troubleshooting

The power supply located on the back of the Network Unit powers up the whole QUATRA system. Make sure that the power supply in the Network Unit is plugged in properly, if you still have no power on the Network Unit (CU) try another outlet. If you continue to have problems with the Network Unit reach out to your point of sale for support.

When your system has a red power indicator, one of the following things could be happening. You might have a power adapter failure, a hardware failure, system overheating, or the system may need a simple restart.

Start by resetting the Unit’s one by one, unplugging the power supply, wait 5 seconds, then plug it back in. Verify that the Unit’s software is up to date by using QMT or cloud portal. If the problem persists, return Unit for service.

When your system has a flashing red power indicator, one of the following things could be happening. You might have a problem with the Mode setting, registration or donor signal, or the system may need a simple restart.

Verify the Unit’s specific error by using QMT or cloud portal.

Wait. System is in a setup state. If a red error indication occurs on the NU, CU LEDs may stay in the setup state until the NU error is cleared.

A Coverage Unit LAN cable may be shorted. Unplug all Coverage Units, power cycle the system, and plug CoverageUnit cables back in one at a time to check where fault occurs (fault could be in cabling, a QUATRA Range Extender, or a Coverage Unit).

If QUATRA Range Extenders are used, verify that LAN cable length on either side of the Extenders does not exceed100 meters.

If none of the above works, try another power supply and/or another Network Unit.

Verify that a live LAN Ethernet cable is connected to the Network Unit LAN port (not the LAN OUT port which is used to daisy-chain to another Network Unit LAN port).

Check LAN firewall settings to the cloud (contact your IT Administrator for assistance). The Network Unit uses port 443 for management traffic.

Connect at least one Coverage Unit (CU) to the Network Unit (NU) for QUATRA to operate properly. CU is not connected or cannot be seen. Check QRE to CU cable and/or CU. CU may be checked by plugging directly to back of NU or QRE Output with LAN test cable. Check NU –QRE –CU cables lengths (must not exceed 100meters each, and use of patch panels may reduce maximum length).

Use the WAVE portal or QMT to enable the Coverage Unit if it is disabled.

Unplug the input cable, wait 5 seconds, and plug it back in. If the condition persists the unit needs to be replaced.

CEL-FI QUATRA uses the Nextivity’s WAVE platform to perform management and reporting functions. To facilitate this, the CEL-FI QUATRA Network Unit is connected to the internet through the install site LAN. Typical data payload is around 2kbps once per hour (system health data) or can increase temporarily during software updates or for remote troubleshooting. Commissioning requires this internet connection, even if temporary. Ping (ICMP) is not supported.

The WAVE system requires the following networking access:
1) HTTPS on port 443
2) DNS (standard port for DNS is 53).
3) DHCP (standard port for DHCP is 67).
4) NTP (standard port for NTP is 123). Currently we are using pool.ntp.org, but an additional Nextivity NTP server will be added in the future.

Connections are always initiated from the device side. There is no need to configure any inbound ports on the firewall, thereby reducing exposure to external threats. To achieve both these attributes and still remain responsive to external commands, QUATRA uses Websockets. Websockets is a lightweight IETF protocol that is built on top of HTTP and establishes persistent TCP connections between a client and server. Since the connection is initiated on client side and uses regular HTTPS, typically no special inbound firewall configuration is needed, yet commands can be delivered to the device in real-time.

Error Messages

Relocate Network Unit (NU) where a stronger signal exists, or use an external antenna for the NU. If using a small cell, verify the small cell can process calls and check the connections to the NU. Power cycle the NU.

Troubleshoot any Network Unit (NU) error first, and check for software updates. Make sure Coverage Unit (CU) cables do not exceed 100m (or 100m + QRE + 100m). Note that standard Ethernet Extenders or active LAN switches and routers will not work with CU cabling. Power cycle the CU by detaching and reattaching the LAN cable. Test CU by plugging it into back of NU with short test cable.

Make sure the Coverage Unit (CU) air vents are not blocked, or move the CU to a cooler location.

The Network Unit (NU) should be upright and the air vents not blocked. Move NU to a cooler area.

Product Registration is required for your system to operate. Please follow the registration instructions using QMT or the WAVE portal.

Power cycle the Network Unit (NU) and check for software updates. If problem persists, return NU for service.

Your system has been disabled by the mobile network operator. Contact your vendor for further assistance.

Move Network Unit (NU), or re-aim NU external antenna using QMT or the WAVE Portal. Strong signal source may be from another Operator’s device (cell tower, local small cell, or booster).

Your system has been moved from its original address. Please move the system back to its original location or register your new address with your wireless provider.

One of your Coverage Units (CU) is too close to your Network Unit (NU). Try moving the units farther apart (or move units so more signal blocking structurees isolate them from each other).

Power cycle the unit and check for software updates. If problem persists, return the unit for service.

Network Unit (NU) Mode is set to small cell. Verify that small cell is connected and operational, or set NU Mode to Internal or External Antenna if no Small Cell used.

Small Cell Detected but Network Unit (NU) is not set to Small Cell. Use QMT or WAVE Portal to set NU Mode to Small Cell.

Too Many Coverage Units (CU) connected. More than one CU in use for Off-Air configuration. Use QMT or WAVE Portal to set Mode = External Antenna, and NU should be connected to an external antenna.

Antenna positioning incomplete. Use QMT or WAVE Portal to aim the NU donor antenna.

The ethernet link between NU and CU is behaving unreliably or reporting an error. Ensure the ethernet cable is not damaged and its connectors are securely plugged in on both ends.
