GFIA in Focus Australia
The Australian Government wants Australian agriculture to become a $100 billion industry by 2030. In a recent discussion paper released by former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, two key themes to achieve this were: ‘growing sustainably’ whereby the industry should aim to be carbon neutral by 2050 and; ‘unlocking new technology’ with a favorable tax and policy environment for innovation, connecting every farm to the Internet of Things, and the co-investment into technology development by the government and private sector.
GFIA Australia is located in Queensland because the Queensland Government is aiming to double agricultural output in the State by 2040 delivering vast business opportunity to ag-tech suppliers that are positioned to contribute to this movement. Home to 23,000 farms, Queensland is the largest supplier of fresh fruit and vegetables to Australian consumers, producing 24% of the total gross value of agricultural production in Australia. It is also a prolific livestock producer and Australia’s largest cattle producer.
