Planning to travel cross-country and need to stay in touch on the go?  Powertec offers a premium range of cellular antenna solutions suitable for all vehicle types. Designed to work flawlessly with CEL-FI GO mobile phone repeaters, Blackhawk cellular antennas offer superior performance, maximum range, durability and reliability. Omni directional antennas are most commonly used for vehicles. Due to their design, they are able to receive a signal in a 360° span. Not sure where to start? Lucky for you, we’ve created a cheat sheet to help you chose the right antenna for your vehicle and situation.

What is Antenna gain?

Gain is not an amplification of a signal, it’s the antennas effectiveness in focusing radio frequency energy in a particular direction.

The higher the gain the more focused and narrower the field of reception. Gain is commonly measured in dBi.

The higher the gain the further the signal will push.

Radiation Patterns

Gain affects the radiation pattern of an antenna, this can be illustrated with the balloon concept. Gain, distance and hillsA squashed balloon represents a high gain signal pattern with the balloon getting wider the more your squash it, at the expense of height. The unsquashed balloon represents a low gain signal pattern with a shorter reach, but an equal height.

It is important to match the radiation pattern of the antenna to the terrain you drive in the most often. High gain antennas are suited to flatter terrain where there is log distanced between cell towers. A medium gain antenna is a good compromise in mountainous and coastal areas where they still have a decent reach horizontally but have a higher reach vertically for when the cell towers may be high on the hills and you are driving through a valley.

Antennas for Caravans and Recreational Vehicles

Getting ready for your next adventure? The Blackhawk omni marine antenna is high gain and designed for versatility, for use in a variety of environments. With a high 7-10 dBi gain and supporting all bands, this antenna will provide the perfect solution for voice and data applications where medium to high gain is required. This antenna is cleverly designed to fold down for travelling, simply adjust the handle to set up once you’ve stopped to get signal.Blackhawk Omni Marine Antenna 698-2700 7-10dBi and Mount Base
