Richard Crookes Construction 14 Storey Residential Building

Richard Crookes Construction is a private Australian construction company that has been delivering projects as promised; on time and budget, safely and to the highest quality standard since 1976. Building on over 44 years of success, RCC delivers projects across a range of sectors, with office locations in Sydney, Newcastle, Canberra and Brisbane.

Installation Challenges

The main challenge of the installation was running 85m of cables down the communications risers through public thoroughfare with COVID19 restrictions in place.

The Issue

The newly constructed 14 storeys residential building located in the heart of Sydney was suffering from poor 3G-4G signal levels in the basement carpark which was affecting the GoGet Car Share on the B2 level. There was also poor signal in the manager’s offices on B1 level.

The Products

Telstra Cel-Fi GO, Optus Cel-Fi GO2 and Vodafone Cel-Fi GO2 stationary repeaters were installed to provide a uniform signal distribution across the building.

The Blackhawk Parabolic Grid antenna was selected as the external antenna for this project to isolate the best quality signal and overcome the dense “noisy” environment in the heart of Sydney.

Blackhawk collared roof mast is ultra heavy duty and built tough for the Australian environment. The 50mm collared roof masts come into play when you need to install high gain or heavy antennas, where the standard 25mm roof masts won’t support the load.

The Blackhawk Omni Ceiling antenna provided consistently distributed mobile phone service from the Cel-Fi repeater, with a 360° beam width for complete internal coverage. The antenna is compact with a visually unobtrusive design similar to a smoke alarm.

The Solution

The projects team went to the site to do a site survey to obtain signal strength readings and capture photos of the facility. We then did a design, which provides a BOM (bill of materials) and plans for the contractors to follow. Our Technical Coordinator made sure we could provide full coverage in all the affected areas using Cel-Fi GO repeaters.

The Outcome

The solution provided enhanced in-building coverage of mobile networks improving the signal strength to all the levels located within the affected area of the building so that the GoGet Car Share could operate with the required cellular signal and the managers could also communicate from the offices in the B1 basement level.

Mobile devices now work in the target coverage areas.
