TNC connectors remain widely used in many US-manufactured devices. Within the wireless communications industry the most popular device manufacturer using TNC connectors is Cisco, who almost exclusively use the connector on its 3G and LTE-HWIC mobile broadband modules.
TNC Male can be identified by its mid-sized circular body, which rotates in order to thread onto the series’ female counterpart. Standard TNC Male connectors have a gold pin in the centre enclosed with a dielectric shield.
The TNC Male crimp for RG-58 and L-195 cables is very simple to fit-off. After preparing the LMR-195 (or equivalent series) cable, the connector’s centre pin is soldered to the cables inner conductor, and the outer body slides over the top until the pin is fully inserted and the body cannot be pushed on any further. The ferrule is crimped using a standard 5.4 mm (.213″) hex die.
